Vice Principals' Messages


02-MrMohdNoorBinAbdulManaf.jpgIn today’s context, it is inevitable for schools to focus more on holistic education.  Even though academic progress is important, equally critical is for schools to develop pupils in other domains such as character, leadership, aesthetics, moral and physical. In Chongzheng, we constantly enhance our programmes to develop our students holistically.

Emma Goldman once said, “No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure.” In Chongzheng, we spare no efforts in unlocking the good characters that our students possess. We have embarked on many initiatives such as aLIVE Cards and Environment Education programmes to unlock that treasure.

 As a school that has been awarded a Niche Status in Innovation, we continue to equip our pupils with the essential innovation skills. In doing so, we consciously inculcate in our pupils the positive attributes such as perseverance. Due to our pupils’ perseverance during innovation-related competitions, they have brought glory to the school. Etched in the history of the school are our pupils’ achievements in being selected to represent Singapore in innovation competitions in Australia and Wisconsin, America. In fact, our pupils have emerged champions twice for the Asia Pacific region.    

In developing our pupils, it is critical for the school to reach out to parents. Research after research has affirmed that in developing and educating the pupils, the most influential success factor is home. Chongzheng is blessed that it has received strong support from parents. We have many parent volunteers whose presence is greatly felt in the school. They are as busy as a bee during NE celebrations, International Biodiversity Day, etc. It is also heartening to note that they have touched many lives by volunteering their precious time as Reading Mums and kidsREAD Mums. We also know that there are many more at home who have been supporting the school by guiding their children academically, socially and emotionally. We are confident that we will continue to receive the strong support from our parents.

With quality programmes run by highly dedicated teachers and unwavering support from parents, Chongzheng will scale to greater heights year after year. Let’s us embrace the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child.

Mrs Elangovan.jpgChongzheng is a place for ‘living and learning’, where the students learn new knowledge, skills and live the values of respect, responsibility, resilience and compassion.  Living these values have to be inculcated in our students from young.

                 In the book ‘How Children Succeed’, Paul Tough highlighted that character can also be defined as ‘abilities or strengths that you can learn; you can practice; and you can teach’. Our Character Citizenship Education harnesses on the various platforms such as National Education, Student Leadership, Environment Education, Values in Action and Co-curricular activities to provide the CZ experience to our students. For instance, our Student Leadership Programme provides every student an opportunity to be a leader in the classroom, or at selected levels in the school or community. Our Environment Education and Values in Action programmes creates avenues for our students to understand and show care for the environment and community. Through this platform, the students acquire and apply the skills they have learnt as well as live up to the values that these roles require of them.

             Parents also play a critical role in inculcating the right values at home. They partner us in our efforts to develop our students to be an innovative thinker, gracious leader and engaged citizen. One such collaboration that we have embarked on is the ‘Alive card’. Parents and teachers use this card to affirm students when they exhibit the right values.  ‘Catch them Good’ aims to develop the student’s personal growth and ultimately, to translate these acquired values into their learning in the classroom, in their co-curricular activities, interaction with fellow peers and community.

             At the end of their six years in Chongzheng, we aspire every student to be able to live up to the verses of our school song that is;

                                                Confident and steadfast the world we face,

                                    With youth's bright hopefulness, daring and grace,

                                    Joyful we march, forward into the years,

                                    Cries of adventure ringing in our ears.
