CZ Chinese New Year Celebration 2024
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a vibrant and culturally rich celebration that marks the beginning of the lunar new year.
Days leading up to Chinese New Year, the foyer and canteen were decorated with booths in red. Red is the predominant color, symbolizing good luck and prosperity. The Chinese New Year Fair came alive with the hustle and bustle of students participating in the activities.
Students showcased their singing talent with festive songs to usher in the new year. Students learnt about the auspicious meanings of these food through a Chinese traditional tossing game. Families often indulge in these festive foods to usher in good fortune and happiness. Students also enjoyed craft works such as mini dragon dance making, paper cutting and fortune cookie making which they got to gift their friends or bring back for home decorations.
On the eve of Chinese New Year, students were engaged with cultural activities in class before heading to the Hall to enjoy a skit named as CZ Annual Chinese New Year Television show curated by Miss Chia Chen Wei and Ms Joey Lim, who were also the hosts for the ‘television show’.
Cultural performances are another highlight of the celebration. Traditional lion dance captivated the audience with their energetic and rhythmic movements, accompanied by the sounds of drums and cymbals. The performance is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. Martial arts demonstrations, traditional Chinese dance and Chinese New Year songs sing along added to the festive ambiance, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese community.
The vibrant atmosphere and the rich cultural experiences made the Chinese New Year celebration a memorable and cherished tradition.
